On April 24th, the 2nd Asian international symposium on aquaculture and fisheries education held in Shanghai Ocean University with the theme of “better education and better professional, better industry” which attracted hundreds of experts and scholars from the world. They discuss topics in aquaculture and fishery education in Asia Pacific countries, in order to promote the sustainable development of the Asian Fisheries and aquaculture industry. Prof. Yuan Xinhua, deputy director of Freshwater Fisheries Research was invited to the attend the meeting.
In FAO special session, experts and scholars had a heated discussion on informal fisheries training and practice under the framework of South South cooperation. The seminar hosted by Dr. Halwart Mathias, senior official of FAO. Prof. Yuan Xin Hua made a report entitled " aquaculture technology transfer and practice of Freshwater Fisheries Research Center under the framework of South South cooperation", which illustrates the technology transfer, cooperation projects, main achievements and facing challenges since 1978 under the framework of South South cooperation; some projects which are specifically introduced.is currently underway in South Africa, Malawi, Sri Lanka, Burma, Vietnam.
Experts from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), marine ecosystem project group in Bangladesh, Namibia Marine Fisheries Department, Korea pukyong National Fisheries University, the Philippines seaweed farming public organizations, were separately given reports entitled as "fishermen field school - community based fishermen education", "the ecosystem and the development of fishery industry learning tool ---- EAFM ", "the FAO World Fisheries University construction plan", “public school of seaweed farming”.
Teachers and graduate students from the education and training department also attended the symposium, not only develop the international view of fisheries training and broadly thinking of informal fisheries training under the South South cooperation, but also made the positive exchanges of fisheries training.
